Synthetic Lawn Maintenance & Care Guidelines
GENERAL MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR SYNTHETIC LAWN
CLEAR DEBRIS & ORGANIC MATTER
Remove leaves, branches, berries, dried bird droppings etc. from the Synthetic Lawn. Use a flexible plastic rake, leaf-blower or a broom.
WASH OR RINSE AWAY DUST, DIRT & ENVIRONMENTAL SPILLS
Use cold or lukewarm water to hose down dirt, dust and other water based spills from the Synthetic Lawn.
CLEAN UP FOOD, DRINK SPILLS & OTHER MESSES
Messes are bound to happen. However AstroTurf is stain resistant to natural messes; water will clean up most spills. Blot the spill with kitchen paper / absorbent cloth and rinse with water. For tougher messes (i.e. fatty food spills) use a mild detergent and lukewarm water. Wipe or give the turf a gentle brush. In addition rinse with clean water. Pick up solid foods from the grass. If sticky chewy food i.e. chewing gum sticks to the grass an ice cube is helpful to harden it and will make it easier to pick off. Most importantly do not pull on the grass fibres.
PET POTTY CLEAN-UP
Pets adore Fake Grass. However for the fur kids using the grass as their potty area, thoroughly rinse off pet urine with cold water. Pet faecal matter as with natural grass should first dry out and should then be scooped up, thoroughly rinse the grass with clean water. For pet odour control please contact TFSSA.
BRUSH YOUR SYNTHETIC GRASS
Regular brushing of your Synthetic Turf with a medium nylon-bristle broom is crucial. As a result this will keep the grass clean and upright (avoid steel brushes). Brush especially on high traffic areas. Thoroughly brush under areas where objects are standing. Weekly brushing is preferable and therefore will avoid matting or pile crush.
INFILL MATERIAL TOP UP
Infill quantities are critical for infill systems. As a result it will affect the product performance & needs topping up from time to time as required. However do not use inferior infill products. Contact TFSSA for more information.
WEED CONTROL
Remove weeds manually by picking it off the grass. You can also use a natural water based herbicide to eliminate weeds.
PLEASE AVOID THE FOLLOWING
- Never use or spill solvents / abrasive chemicals on the Astro Turf
- Placing heavy objects on your Fake Lawn surface can consequently lead to permanent damage of your grass or aggregate base. However if you need to place heavy objects on your grass often move it around. In addition brush the area where the object stood well to avoid permanent pile crush
- Keep burning materials i.e. coals, cigarette buds etc. away and off your synthetic grass. Remove as soon as possible. As a result this could lead to discolouration and damage of your grass. However professionals can repair burn marks or damaged areas. Contact TFSSA for repairing work. Avoid placing items on the grass that can get hot from the sun i.e. steel rakes, steel shovels etc.
- Avoid sharp objects on the Artificial Turf. This could subsequently damage your turf or disrupt your base
- Do not pull or tug on the grass fibres or around the outer perimeters of the Synthetic Grass
