These are some of our most common grass species in South Africa and it is of utmost importance to plant the correct grass for the application and use of the area.
Warm Season Grasses:
Kikuyu Grass:
Kikuyu grass is the most common grass in South Africa, even though classified as an intruder species in our country it thrives in our climate if planted in the correct location, it can withstand high foot traffic and repairs itself very quickly.
- Kikuyu grass is a strong grower and can establish itself all year round
- Suitable for full sun
- Requires minimum 6 hours sunlight per day
- Not shade tolerant
- Soft texture underfoot
- Broader bright green leaves
- Good tolerance to drought

Cynodon Grass / Bent grass / Cynodon Gulf Green:
Cynodon grass is a soft, fine lawn which is indigenous to South Africa also commonly known as Couch, Bermuda Grass or Kweek. This is a valuable drought resistant water wise grass species.
